4-ALLYLANISOLE ANALOG SCOLYTID REPELLENTS CIP OF 07/113,709; FILED 8/31/93 NOW USP 5,403,863
Patent Number: 5518757
Docket Number: 24495
Serial Number: 8358707
Date Patented: 05/21/1996
Agency:
Forest Service
Issued:
May 21, 1996
Abstract:
The invention relates to chemicals which repel members of the Scolytidae, a family of beetles that carve elaborate
tunnels in the inner bark or wood of trees. Several chemical insecticides are known to be effective but all broad
spectrum pesticides may adversely affect natural enemies of the pests and have other environmental consequences. The
repellants are similar to 4-allylanisole which is a natural repellant produced by host trees and the subject of patent
5,403,863. The repellents may be applied by spraying by brushing on wounds or by wick dispensers and have no effect
on cleridae or other predator insects.
